CCPS Update, June 2007

The Glass & Glazing Project:

The project consists of writing a code of good practices for safety glass in India. There was a meeting of Steering Committee held at Mumbai on 27th June 2007 in which 29 people participated. These participants were from Glass industry, architects, builders, project managers and other stake holders. Mr. Deepak Gahlowt, Convener, CCPS conducted the meeting and the earlier drafts were discussed in details.
It was decided that under the scope, precautions against fall to be added. Also, safety mirror from safety glazing paragraph to be removed. In case of definition of toughened glass, explanatory terms should be deleted. Other points of critical locations, application and installation, identification of safety glass and annexure1 of safety glazing materials in buildings were discussed and amendments were suggested. These amendments have been incorporated in the draft for comments and suggestions.
The next meeting of Steering Committee is decided to be held in Bangalore on 2nd week of August.

Stone Artifact Promotion Project:

The main aim of the project is to compile a manual on promotion of Rajasthan stones and artifacts. As of now, CCPS has compiled the standards from Bureau of Indian Standards and field survey has already been started in various parts of Rajasthan.

CCPS & 3M workshop on Passive Fire Protection:

CCPS in association with 3M India organized a program on passive fire protection. Passive Fire Protection has different systems like through penetration fire stops, fireproof doors, structural steel protection, fire rated ducts, cable coating etc. Passive fire protection does not require power, water or any activation device.
The aim is to prepare people to deal with fire, by installing passive systems compartmentalized damage results, keeping the rest safe. The program was organized at Hotel Hans Plaza, New Delhi on 7th July and various professionals from Hotels, Architects, Fire Consultants, Government bodies attended the program.

CCPS 4TH PUBLICATION “Construction Products in India”:

As you all are aware, CCPS 4th publication- Construction products in India is now available. The Publication enlists new and existing construction products with their technical specifications, usages and manufacturers in India. CCPS organized event for Hilti India Pvt. Ltd:

CCPS organized an interactive session between Dr Baschera, Chairman, Hilti Corporation and professionals from the construction industry on Opportunities and Challenges in the Construction Industry in India. This event was held on 14th June 2007 at Hotel Taj, New Delhi.
Professionals from government authorities like CPWD, AAI, PWD, architects and media people attended the event.
