Meeting on Development of Guidelines on Selection
of Building Hardware and Hardware Fittings

Hardware fittings are important part of building and interior design projects and now-a-days wide range of hardware products are available and in use. Authorities have yet to take action to update the codes, specifications or develop guidelines for the latest hardware being used. CCPS organized a meeting on 9th Nov. 2011 at New Delhi to discuss modalities to develop guidelines adopting Consensus Method, which would be helpful for selection of Hardware products. This meeting was attended by representatives from MES, CPWD, IBC, Wave infratech, Dorma India, Hafele India, Shakti Met-dor, Hettich India, Ozone Overseas, Roto Frank, Aluplast India, LGF Sysmac, GTS Exports, Marion Wuerth, Sapa Building Systems. Four Sub committees were constituted for (i) Door Hardware (ii) Furniture Hardware (iii) Window Hardware & (iv) Glass Hardware. It was decided to hold next meeting of Steering Committee in mid January 2012.

Training Programme on Uses of
Glass & Glazing System in Buildings

CCPS in association with Indian Buildings Congress organized a Training Programme on Uses of Glass & Glazing System in Buildings at IBC, New Delhi on 11th & 12th Aug. 2011. The programme was attended by 47 participants and dignitaries from Central PWD, Military Engineering Services, Delhi Development Authority, PWD Delhi Govt., Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, IRCON International Ltd., Engineering Projects (I) Ltd., UP Twiga, Asahi India, Saint Gobain, Ozone Overseas, Dow Corning, McCoy Soudal, Façade India Testing Inc., Gold Plus Group, IBC and CCPS. The topics covered in the training programme included Types of Glass & Manufacturing Process, Use of Glass for Energy Efficiency & Thermal Comforts in Buildings, Aspects of Human Safety in uses of Glass & responsibility of Authorities, Glazing System and Testing, Architectural Hardware Solutions, Role of Silicone Sealants in structural glazing and construction, Glass and Glass as green material and Case Studies. Capacity Building Workshop
at Chandigarh on 29th June, 2011

Workshop was organized on Use of Glass in Buildings – Human Safety at Haryana PWD (B&R), Engineer-in-Chief office, Chandigarh which was chaired
by Sh. Mahesh Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief, Haryana PWD (B&R) and was attended by 60 participants including senior officers from HUDA, Director General, Town & Country Planning Deptt., Chief Architect’s office, Haryana Housing Board, Haryana PWD and CPWD. Presentation was given by Sh. Deepak Gahlowt,
Hony. Convener, CCPS. Unanimously, it was resolved by the participants to include the recommendations of the CCPS Guidelines in the Building Byelaws of Haryana State to ensure safe use of glass.

Capacity Building Workshop at Jaipur on 25th May, 2011

Workshop was organized by CCPS on Safe Use of Glass in Buildings at Jaipur Development Authority, Jaipur for spreading awareness and highlighting importance of implementation of Office Order NO. F. 10(7) UDD/3/2009 dated 18.01.2011 issued by Govt. of Rajasthan for following up of CCPS “Guidelines on Use of Glass in Buildings: Human Safety” to ensure safe use of glass in buildings in the State. The workshop was chaired by Secretary, Jaipur Development Authority and was attended by more than 39 participants from Town Planning Deptt., Jaipur Development Authority, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, UITs, Rajasthan Housing Board, Builders Association, Township Developers Association of Rajasthan (TODAR), Professionals, Architects & Engineers.

8th Annual General Meeting of CCPS

During 8th Annual General Meeting of CCPS held on 11th Dec. 2010 in New Delhi, following important activities proposed to be taken up:-
a) Development of Guidelines for:
(i) Building Hardware and Hardware Fittings (ii) Selection, installation and Maintenance of Ceramic Tiles (iii) Noise reduction in Buildings (iv) Human Safety at Building Sites (v) Use of Silicone Sealants in Structural Glazing Applications
b) Training programme on Selection of appropriate glass in buildings
c) Skill upgradation training programme for electricians, plumbers, masons, painters, glass cutters etc.

Urgent Need for Proper Norms

CCPS organized an exclusive Press Conference on “URGENT NEED FOR PROPER NORMS ON USE OF GLASS IN BUILDINGS-CCPS concerns Human Safety” on February 27, 2010 at the Deputy Chairman’s Hall, Second floor, Constitution Club, Vithal Bhai Patel House, Rafi Marg, New Delhi. Shri Deepak Gahlowt, a senior Architect and Honorary Convener, CCPS along with other experts including Sh. D.S. Sachdev, Former DG, CPWD addressed the media. Glass & Glazing Standardisation

Confederation of Construction Products and Services (CCPS) has developed “Guidelines on Use of Glass in Buildings - Human Safety” to ensure safe use of glass in critical locations where chances of injury due to glass breakage is high in buildings. These guidelines have been developed for the first time by adopting the consensus approach involving all stake holders, including architects, engineers, key municipalities and other government departments, etc. CPWD has adopted the guidelines for implementation and were released on 155th CPWD Day on 12th July 2009 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi in the presence of Smt. Shiela Dixit, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Delhi, Sh. Saugata Roy, Hon’ble Minister of State for Urban Development, and more than thousand dignitaries and participants attending the function. Central PWD, Govt. of India has issued an Office Memorandum No. 129/SE (TAS)/2007/212 dated 04.08.2009 directing to follow/implementation of “Guidelines on Use of Glass in Buildings- Human Safety” in the department throughout the country and PWD, Govt. of National Capital Territory of Delhi to ensure safe use of glass while planning, designing and executing the buildings.
